LATE SOVIET MODERNISM IN GEORGIA
Two new sessions of the seminar “Soviet Modernisms. Stories of Appropriation and Engagement” curated by Boris Chukhovich on the diversity of Soviet modernisms will take place at the Triennale di Milano, in the venue of the exhibition “Tashkent Modernism. Index”, commissioned by ACDF. We will look at the evolution of ideas of the late Modern Movement in Armenia and Georgia in the 1960s-1980s.
The second session will be held by Nini Palavandishvili, architectural and art critic. Her lecture – LATE SOVIET MODERNISM IN GEORGIA: Challenges of interpretation and preservation – will focus on the modernism in Tbilisi in the last 30 Soviet Years.
The speakers will also talk about their experiences in the preservation of contemporary architecture on example of their theoretical and practical projects on “Writers Resort” on Lake Sevan and “Palace of Chess” in Tbilisi, carried out as part of the Getty Institute program “Keeping it modern”.
